Pentecost celebrations 2025

In the true spirit of Pentecost, parishioners of Holy Cross and SS Philip and James parishes came together for a day of celebration. A celebration of our many talents, of our diverse cultures and traditions, of our many languages and of our shared belief in the one God who gave these gifts to us.

During morning Mass, in both churches bedecked with flags of many nations, the Bidding Prayers were said in languages representing our various nationalities. These included Gaelic, Portuguese, Spanish, English and a variety of African languages.

The afternoon saw the community come together to continue the celebration. Fr. Alex welcomed everyone and led them in the hymn “Spirit of God”. This was followed by a multicultural lunch, including food from Italy, Poland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, India, Malaysia and a number of African countries.

The entertainment continued with singing and dancing from Nigeria, England and Ireland, and with people wearing national dress from many countries.

The words of Luke in Acts 2:17 were made clear:  I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

May the message of Pentecost continue to grow and spread: God pours out his gifts on everyone regardless of race, nationality or social status. We too must continue to be examples of unity in today’s world.
